Bibb County High School’s latest edition to professional
baseball, Jalen Goree was named Tuscaloosa News player of the Year last
week. This comes a few weeks after
being named to the Super All-State and named 4A Player of the Year by the
Alabama Sports Writer’s Association. All of this perhaps may pale in comparison
to where Goree is headed. The
17-year-old shortstop/pitcher was drafted in the sixth round last month by
Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres organization.
In the 2012 High School season Jalen who plays shortstop and
pitches had a .459 batting average with 56 hits including 7 home runs, 10
doubles, and 2 triples. Goree also
batted in 36 runs and crossed home plate 60 times. As a pitcher he was 5-3 with an earned run average of 1.67
and 58 strikeouts.
