"We are the front lines of truth advocacy. Major media outlets have traded truth for sensationalism, and online news sites have no real legal concerns to keep them in check. Digital text is not ink. The community newspapers are left as the only legally challenged body of information. We cannot afford to lie. We cannot afford to be inaccurate. We are the last stand for freedom of the press. We are the last of the true journalists."

Bibb County High School’s latest edition to professional baseball, Jalen Goree was named Tuscaloosa News player of the Year last week.  This comes a few weeks after being named to the Super All-State and named 4A Player of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writer’s Association. All of this perhaps may pale in comparison to where Goree is headed.  The 17-year-old shortstop/pitcher was drafted in the sixth round last month by Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres organization.
In the 2012 High School season Jalen who plays shortstop and pitches had a .459 batting average with 56 hits including 7 home runs, 10 doubles, and 2 triples.  Goree also batted in 36 runs and crossed home plate 60 times.  As a pitcher he was 5-3 with an earned run average of 1.67 and 58 strikeouts.
