The Centreville Press staff has announced the recipient for 2010 “Bibb County Motivator of the Year.” This award is in conjunction with the Centreville Press Newsworthiness Awards. Last week voters on our blog; “Bibblogger” determined the 2010 “Bibb County Newsmaker of the Year” and the 2010 “Bibb County Moment of the Year.”
The Motivator of the Year was determined based upon word of mouth consensus of the public as the staff has seen it.
This year we recognize Bibb County High School Marching Band Drum Major, Krista Elam for her ability (along with her band mates) to rise above the disappointment of leader abandonment as the BCHS band director resigned early in the football season. This action left members of the band without a leader other than the volunteer efforts of many positive community minded people. The only constant leader the band was familiar with and could look towards was a senior teenager with enough a chip on her shoulder to handle the pressure.
In what appeared to be the most definitive moment as this story continued to develop over the course of 3 weeks was that many citizens commented that the band sounded better under the leadership of the drum major rather than the direction of the adult who suddenly left them.
