"We are the front lines of truth advocacy. Major media outlets have traded truth for sensationalism, and online news sites have no real legal concerns to keep them in check. Digital text is not ink. The community newspapers are left as the only legally challenged body of information. We cannot afford to lie. We cannot afford to be inaccurate. We are the last stand for freedom of the press. We are the last of the true journalists."

Makeover winner pays it forward every day

By Billy Coley

Holly Lewis, 25 of Centreville never dreamed anything like this would happen to her. “Why me?” she kept asking herself. Holly was the winner of “Operation Diva” sponsored by The Haven in Centreville. Holly received a complete makeover from The Haven (a massage, manicure, pedicure, a complete wardrobe from Ashley’s courtesy of stylist Linda Renn) and front row seats to the Doug McCormick concert after the Christmas parade.
It all started with an idea from Haven stylist, Tara McMillan and her daughter Savannah, 13. They got their idea from the movie “Pay it Forward” as well as a well known radio ministry. Tara said “We wanted to do something for someone well deserving in our community. We knew we had the ability to do hair and makeup, we just needed help in a few other areas. After speaking with the Haven owner, Linda Renn and with help from the Haven staff, they were able to do the transformation for Holly.
Holly won the makeover as a result of a letter submitted by her husband, Tony Lewis.
Tony wrote:
“Selfless. This is one of the best words to describe my wife, Holly. Looking at her, you couldn’t tell that she is Selfless. She is beautiful; and to the naked eye, doesn’t look as if she hasn’t treated herself to the occasional ‘me time’ outing. However, the truth is that she has not been pampered in years.
Whether it be that she didn’t allot money out for herself and instead bought a child whose home had burned a few new toys, or our own children something they desired and/or needed. If she decided that instead of splurging a little on herself, she had rather splurge on me. Or is she didn’t want to leave and take time to herself for fear that we may need her at home. Whatever the reason, she has never put herself above anything or anyone. Period.
A woman such as Holly rarely takes time out to treat herself, yet deserves it more than anyone. The way she continuously puts our children and myself over her own desires makes her as deserving of this as anyone. She is the most kind-hearted soul I know. She is always so patient with our girls and myself. She loves unconditionally, and never thinks twice about it.
Trying to explain why she deserves this is proving impossible. I want her to have this day because of the amazing person that she is inside and out. Thank you for the opportunity to make this happen for my beautiful and loving wife, Holly.
Sincerely,
Tony Lewis
‘Paying it Forward’ is doing something good for someone and not expecting anything in return. Instead of paying someone back, pay it forward to someone else. Think of how many people can be reached and touched if everyone paid it forward. It doesn’t have to be monetary, if can be done in many, many different ways. We’re sure Holly will ‘Pay it Forward’. She does it every day.
