The Alabama Baptist, a weekly statewide spiritual publication, recently recognized well-known local businessman, Hugh Edmonds. The paper’s Board of Directors passed a resolution in a recent meeting, which declared March 5, Hugh and Magaret Ann Edmonds Day.
Edmonds served on the Board for 16 years and before his roll off from the Board he made a contribution to the Board, which helped with new offices.
“Of all of the things that he (Hugh) has done in his life, he loved serving on that board more than most of what he has one,” explained his wife Hugh Edmonds.
“I can’t express how much I loved serving because I have loved Alabama Baptist all of my life,” explained Mr. Edmonds. “The people associated with the Alabama Baptist are really salt of the earth folks.”
“Following our meeting where we made the declaration we held a special prayer thanking God for all the contributions that Hugh and his wife Magaret Ann have made to the Alabama Baptist,” explained Alabama Baptist President and Publisher Bob Terry. “We wanted Hugh to know that his efforts were unanimously appreciated by the Board so we are presenting him with a plaque signifying our recognition. He has made a tremendous contribution and our publication.”
The Alabama Baptist provides commentary, news, and other information for Baptists across the state. It was first published in 1843 out of Marion, Alabama. In 1919 this independent publication was purchased to be owned by the Alabama Baptist State Convention and has remained under control of that entity since.
Through election, the State Convention chooses its 16-member board in which Edmonds served and currently former Centreville Press owner, Jim Oakley serves.
Each member can only serve an 8-year term before being rolled off. Edmonds served his first 8 years, took a few years off and was elected to serve another 8 years until his recent roll off.
