Cahaba River Runners participated in and finished the Mercedes Half Marathon, which is a 13.1 mile run. The event was held on Sunday, February 13, in Birmingham.
Ten years ago, a father whose Down syndrome son was in need of open-heart surgery created the marathon. Since then this Birmingham tradition has become a staple to raise money for local charities.
David Steele of Centreville ran to raise money for Cancer Research and Awareness in the name of the Relay For Life team created by his wife, Jennifer in honor of their daughter Kyli who was diagnosed with cancer mid-last year.
Students at West Blocton High School where David teaches and coaches and Centreville Middle School, where David once taught helped raised money for David’s battle against “Goliath,” a war he won on February 12th by completing the course as promised.
