The Alabama Cooperative Extension System, Prostate Services in Alabama, the Alabama Department of Public Health and the Alabama Cancer Control Coalition are partnering to help save the lives of Alabama males.
Twenty-five men (or spouse) ages forty and above are invited to “Help Create a Buzz about Blue” by attending a Prostate Cancer Awareness program on Wednesday, March 23 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, at Four Points Baptist Church, 75 Maple Street, Centreville, AL 35042. Registration begins at 8:30am, and the program will be held in the church gymnasium.
The blue ribbon is a symbol of commitment to raising awareness about prostate cancer. Lunch will be served, and incentives for each participant will include a cap, educational bag, and clock. Call the Bibb County Extension Office at 205-926-3117 or 205-926-4310 to reserve your place for this potentially life-saving program. Reservations will be accepted first come, first served.
One in seven men are at risk for prostate cancer. Risk factors include age, family history and race. African American males are at a higher risk. If there is a family history of prostate cancer, screenings should begin at age forty, otherwise at age fifty.
The good news about prostate cancer is that, if detected early, it is one of the most treatable forms of cancer. Early detection and treatment can very well mean the difference between life and death. Encourage your loved one to attend this program, learn about prostate cancer, and above all, seek regular screenings.
