Bibb County citizen and newcomer to the Alabama House of Representatives, April Weaver (R) has received her committee assignments.
She will serve on the Health and Education policy committees. Weaver will serve on these committees through 2014. She believes strongly that her background in medicine and government relations will help her tremendously in her assignment as part of the Health Policy Committee.
Before being elected, Representative Weaver spent a great deal of time working with health plans for the state in Montgomery. Weaver, who is the Director of Business Administration at Shelby Baptist Medical Center, believes she can bring her extensive and thorough experience in the medical field to benefit of Alabamians.
“This is a committee assignment I am most comfortable with,” explained Weaver. “This is what I know and what I understand the most and I am looking forward to putting that to work for the state of Alabama.”
During her successful campaign in early 2010, Weaver ran on many issues but focused a great deal on her experience in health administration, and her experienced understanding of the government’s relationship with the medical business.
With Obama-Care not setting well with the majority of vocal Alabamians April expressed (then) that an experienced common sense approach to health care from someone who understood the process would benefit the state.
Weaver was also elected by the Republican Caucus to serve in one of the seats for the Sunset Committee. This is something not typically afforded to a freshman legislator.
The Sunset Committee is required to review each year the operations of state agencies scheduled for review in the sunset law or in the agency’s enabling law. The Sunset Committee can review the operations of any additional state agency.
Rep. Weaver is the first woman of Bibb County to be elected in a statewide office. The district in which she serves (49) covers portions of Bibb and Shelby counties.
