Bibb County Choctaws advance to semi-finals - For the first time ever the Bibb County High School football team advanced to the State Semi-Finals. Bibb County High School graduates its winningest class of seniors in Spring of 2011.
Brent / Centreville / West Blocton Homecomings - Through all of the controversy that devided the community in 2010 from the wet/dry vote to the election of a new Superintendent this was a moment when everyone came together, got along, and enjoyed quality family entertainment.
Diaheem Watkins named 4A Lineman of the Year - It is not an everyday occurrence in Bibb County that a football player in named to the first team "All State" as selected by the Alabama Sports Writer's Association. Watkins was also named to the Super 12 and is a highly coveted Division 1 NCAA prospect.
April Weaver elected as State Representative - She's not only a hometown girl, she won an election as an underdog to both of her opponents. Through a family based grass roots campaign Weaver became the first Bibb County woman to ever be elected to a statewide office and the first Bibb County native and citizen to win the Shelby County portion of the District 49 vote since Walter Owings in the early 1990s.
Brent and Centreville go wet - It was the most controversial vote of the year. Citizens were ignited by their passions on whether or not voting for the legal sale of alcohol would improve or hurt the cities of Brent and Centreville. For decades everytime this vote came to the table controversy over missing ballot boxes and rumors of business owner payoffs ran rapid. This being the first time in history that a "wet/dry" election turned in the way of "wet" for any portion of Bibb County was not only historical but also had some citizens concerned about the voting process.
Grand Opening of the New Bibb County Board of Education Building - In December of 2008 the Bibb County Board of Education Building which was formerly a Junior High and High School burned before the horrified eyes of those who attended school in the facility. Many were shocked and several citizens were emotional as there was nothing which could be done to salvage the building. In December of 2010 a new building similar in appearance was opened after being constructed upon the ashes of the old building. Complete with a community staged theatre, state of the art Board room, and a museum of Bibb County Schools history, this building served as a momentous end to a strange year of 2010.
Winners will be announced on February 2nd.
